Głównym tematem artykułu jest obecność lub brak austronostalgii w wypowiedziach subiektywnych. Materiałem źródłowym są eseje czeskiego autora Lubomíra Martínka oraz wspomnienia przedstawicieli 13 przeciętnych przypadkowych czeskich rodzin. Refleksje autora koncentrują się z jednej strony na braku austronostalgii w tych subiektywnych świadectwach, a z drugiej na przyczynach tej nieobecności. Autorka w swoim artykule przedstawia pole semantyczne barw w najważniejszym dziele czeskiego romantyzmu Máj, napisanym przez Karla Hynka Máchę. Klasyfikuje ona nazwy kolorów według części mowy: rzeczowniki, przymiotniki, przysłówki i czasowniki z uwzględnieniem pasm tęczy (wyrazy nazywające kolory wprost i pośrednio). Ponadto podaje listę leksemów, które wyrażają intensywność nasycenia światła i efekt mroku. Autorka dochodzi do wniosku, że ważne miejsce w opisie przyrody zajmuje gra świateł, a także wydobycie przejściowych kontrastów światła przez Karla Hynka Máchę. FACES OF AUTOCRACY IN CZECH LITERARY DYSTOPIASThe paper deals with the phenomenon of dystopia in Czech literature before 1989. The main aim of the article is to present some similiar views on totalitarian power and its influence on the individual in Czech novels and short stories: Datum narození nula by Ludmila Freiová, Poselství pro Agla Mathona by Ondřej Neff, Utopie, nejlepší verze by Ivan Kmínek and Maso by Martin Harníček. The purpose of the paper was also to show how in the authors’ visions of autocratic states, administration is taking control over ordinary people and what kind of tools it uses to manipulate them: terror, self-censorship or various addictions.

The author discusses two examples of writing in a language different from writers’ mother tongue: Jan Novak i Tomasz Jedrowski. A novel by Novak Million Dollar Kit never was published in English and is available for Czech readers in translation only. Debut novel by Jedrowski Swimming in the Dark was written in English for an English audience. The main subject of the article is to analyse possible motivations that led the writers to a decision of writing in their second language using contemporary linguistic and cognitivist theories.

The article analyses the novel Cesta do pekel written by Václav Vokolek – the Czech prose writer, poet and painter – through the usage of the intersemiotic translation strategies. The plot of the text can be characterized as the contamination of the physically plausible historic world (the construction of the railway in the middle of the 19th century) with the implausible one (the infernal story) according to Lubomír Doležel’s typology. Demonstrating the changes in the arts (the clash of romanticism with realism), the novelist sensitizes the reader to the drastic introversion into nature, as exemplifi ed by the urbanization processes in the north of the Czech Republic. The article discusses works of Vladimír Körner (born in 1939), the plot of which is related to the Austro-Prussian war (1866). These are: series Post bellum 1866, a micro narrative Oklamaný – Der Bertogene and a novel Život za podpis. In the first part of the study the attention concentrates on writer’s statements, taken from press interviews, which assess this armed conflict. These statements are treated as paratexts to analysed literary works. The series Post bellum 1866 is considered as a distinctive guide to a place of the battle of Königgratz. Powieść Grandhotel to utwór czeskiego pisarza młodego pokolenia Jaroslava Rudiša. Portrety i losy bohaterów powieściowych zostały wpisane przez Rudiša w dwudziestowieczną historię Liberca i sudeckich okolic. Stworzenie postaci Fleischmana – głównego bohatera powieści, o skomplikowanej osobowości i tożsamości – posłużyło pisarzowi w próbie zdiagnozowania zbiorowego ducha współczesnych Czechów. "Kouzlo dálky" i "mechanismus kaváren a vináren" - uwagi o (nie)pamięci w korespondencji Jana Zahradníčka z Františkiem Halasem

The article analyses letters exchanged in the years 1930 to 1949 between two outstanding Czech poets - Jan Zahradníček and František Halas. Despite their contrary views (Zahradníček was perceived as an ardent Catholic, while Hałas – as holding rather left-wing worldviews), their written communication is a testimony of their friendship which lasted for two decades. However, in the letters there are also expressed, especially in the final stage of their correspondence, numerous radical judgments of the thickening atmosphere (years of the war and Soviet domination) surrounding both artists as well as mutual assessments of their social and ethical attitudes.
